JOHN HILL'S THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE OF OFFICE

19 May 2020

For as long as I can remember, futurists have predicted the demise of office space because people will work from home. The experiences I am hearing blow away that myth.
Working in a family environment is no picnic. Also, over the last decade the average amount of office space per person has fallen because of workstations and hot desks. That figure is likely to start rising again, as social distancing is recognised.
The key to office use will still be employment. It is pretty simple - more employment means more demand for office space, a period of rising unemployment means less demand.
